HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-04-19 Public Comment - N. Astrup - HRDC Warming Center SiteFrom:Nancy & Pete Astrup To:Sarah Rosenberg; Agenda Subject:Homeless Shelter 3025 Westridge Drive Bozeman Date:Monday, November 04, 2019 3:54:00 PM I am writing to OPPOSE the Westridge Warming Shelter for several reasons. I would like to stress that this is not about lack of compassion, this is about the wronglocation! 1. The location is simply wrong. This is an R-1 Zoning area. "Special Use Permit" is indefinite (what does that mean?) this should NOT be happening in R-1 Zoning! Manyfamilies have specifically chosen this location due to its zoning and school locations. There is NO PUBLIC TRANSIT LOCATION closer that 1 mile from proposed house. Those movingabout the shelter may be walking through the neighborhood if needed to get to public transportation. 2. PROXIMITY TO SCHOOLS Morning Star Elementary (287 feet) and Sacajawea Middle School. Traffic, both foot and car, is extensive during and after school hours, proposedlocation is at this very busy intersection and close to schools is a terrible idea. 3. SAFETY CONCERNS. Disorderly conduct, assaults, warrants, trespass complaints and theft have all occurred at other HRDC locations. Incidents at prior shelters is not zero. People are not kept from leaving the shelter at night nor prevented from showing up afterhours. 3. VERY POOR communication to the local neighborhood and lack of transparency in lettingthe neighbors know what is happening. It was a random thing that we heard about the proposal and this occurred AFTER the house purchase. A sign by the house and hearing on thenews shows a blatant disregard and lack of communication to the local residents. A last minute meeting held at Pilgrim Church (that very few knew about) again shows very poorcommunication to this community. I urge you to deny this proposal and include the community to provide feedback in a publicforum. Thank you ,Nancy Astrup
