F. Action Items
a. 06:03:42 PM (00:01:02) Inventory Update (Discussion)
Historical Preservationist Phil Gonzalez stated that a work order is now in place
with Metcalf Archeology to conduct a survey of 128 properties in the B-2M
zoning district and going down 5th Avenue in the corner of the Neighborhood
Conservation Overlay District (NCOD). Metcalf Archeology gave a timeframe of
completion with 9 to 10 months with the survey work to begin in October 2019.
Project cost is $59,000. Mr. Gonzalez described the boundaries of the survey
area and potential properties to survey.
b. 06:12:16 PM (00:09:36) Willson Project (Discussion)
Chairperson Dunn recapped last meeting’s discussion that this project is not a
priority with board members. Mr. Gonzalez has not heard back from Dr. Janet
Ore on the possibility of utilizing MSU students to work on this project.
Discussion lead to creating a small committee could lead volunteers in the
proposed.
c. 06:18:38 PM (00:15:58) Update on Trainings (Discussion) Mr. Gonzalez stated that
there is no update to pass along to the board. There will be some training this
fall, perhaps during the retreat. The training will be more formal, conducted by a
third party with input from State Historic Preservation Office (SHIPO)
representative. The initial training will be demolition of historic structures.
06:23:19 PM (00:20:39) Mr. Gonzalez discussed the possible upcoming proposed
demolition of property on Mendenhall (Straightaway Motors) and two additional
properties in that area. Board members also discussed historical districts and
amending the districts to include eligible properties.
d. 06:29:47 PM (00:27:07) Retreat Plan (Discussion) Mr. Gonzalez will arrange for a
poling of board members through Schedulicity to find a good Saturday in
November or first half of December when all can attend the retreat.
Topics should include training if it has not occurred before. Other topics include
steps to develop a Preservation Plan after the formalization of the Growth Plan
for the city.
e. 06:39:12 PM (00:36:32) Board Openings (Discussion) The city clerk received an
official resignation letter from Board member Michael Wallner. Mr. Gonzalez
commented no candidates have yet submitted an application for the vacant
board position. He will keep board members up to date, so they can do outreach
as needed.
