Subject:Warming Shelter in Figgins Neighborhood
Date:Saturday, November 02, 2019 4:10:22 PM
To Whom it may concern:
The proposed location for the HRDC warming shelter is one for which the special use permit
HRDC is applying for needs to be denied. This is a bad location for all parties, includingthose for whom it is intended. Reasons for this include:
--The proximity to Morning Star and Sacajawea schools.
--The R1 zoning rules already in place in Figgins neighborhood.--The possibility for safety of Figgins residents and the hundreds of children attending
Morning Star and Sacajawea schools being compromised. --The logistics of transportation and transport of guests from the shelter to the main HRDC
center.
The fact that this decision, which affects not only residents of the Figgins neighborhood, butall families who have children attending both Morning Star and Sacajawea, is left to one
person seems very short-sided and sneaky. I strongly urge Marten Matsen to find anacceptable solution to this issue that involves denying the special use permit to HRDC to
convert this home on Westridge that is so close to where children play at school 9 months outof the year. I fully support the need for warming centers of this type to be available to those in
need. This is a worthwhile thing to offer to Bozeman residents, as I could not imagine facingthe elements without a place to find refuge. However, the proposed HRDC shelter location at
3025 Westridge is a terrible location for that. I hope that Marten Matsen can deny the specialuse permit to protect our children. If this approval were left to me, I would not be able to live
with myself if something ever went wrong that involved a child. Please do the right thing.
