Aguilar - HRDC Warming Center SiteFrom:carole aguilar To:Agenda Subject:Fw: Proposed Warming Shelter at 3025 Westridge Drive, Bozeman Date:Saturday, November 02, 2019 11:04:29 PM To Whom It May Concern: The issue I am addressing is not about lack of compassion for those in need. It is about the location choice that jeopardizes the safety of the residents and their families in this area. I oppose the proposed warming shelter at 3025 Westridge Drive in Bozeman that can house up to 36 individuals. This is not an appropriate location due to a number of reasons. This area is a densely populated R-1/single family home location. This house sits on a corner lot at a busy three way stop sign that has a cross walk that is used by junior high and elementary students walking to and from school. The home is only 287 feet away from the Morning Star Elementary school, with Sacajawea Middle School further down 3rd to the South of this house. The nearest city bus stop at Sola Café is a mile away from this location. If these individuals walk to and from this shelter, they will be walking along 3rd Street and Graf that have no sidewalks or street lights. This will be a hazard to people driving on these roads. Safety of this residential area is put at a risk as these individuals come and go as they choose, possibly wandering through the neighborhood during the day, causing residents concern for the safety of themselves, their family and their homes. These individuals will not be screened, have no background checks and no history will be known as to who these individuals are. I feel it is very undemocratic to not give the community more input on such a major zoning change, with no city commissioner vote, no public hearing, letting the Bozeman director of Community Development make the final call. I deeply care about those in need, doing whatever I can to help these individuals. My concern is how the approval of this Special Use Permit in a single family home area will impact the safety of myself and my neighbors, especially the children. I am a single, 65 year old woman who lives alone and works until 9:00 at night. I currently feel very safe in my neighborhood, but if this issue is approved, I will not feel safe and that my home is secure anymore. Please reconsider the location of the proposed HRDC homeless shelter at 3025 Westridge Drive. Carole Aguilar 3020 Erwin Avenue Bozeman, MT
