Subject:HRDC warning center proposed locationy
Dear Ms. Rosenberg, Mr. Matsen and City Leaders,
I too would like to voice my voice my concern as with the request with HRCD and the special permit request for the
house on Westridge Drive.
It is not for lack of compassion or understanding that a facility like this is needed. However, for the success of the facility
as well as the people it helps it needs to be in the right location. I feel the Westridge Drive location is not the right
location. This facility should be near public transportation, employment opportunities, and public services individuals in
a facility like this need.
My concern with the proposed location is that it is unsuitable for 2 reasons; 1)proximity to school 2) access to public
transportation and 3) the existing zoning of the Figgins Subdivision.
This location, 3025 Westridge Drive is 287 FEET from an elementary school playground.
Additionally, I worry that this property has not been thoroughly vetted for access to public transportation. If the
residents of the shelter did choose to leave during the evening hours, it is a mile to the closest bus stop. Isn't this too far
for someone to walk in the cold?
Please consider the below:
According to: Ordinance 1997, Zone Text Amendments to Add Transitional and Emergency Housing as an Authorized
Use: (pg. 355) "D. Additional criteria. The review authority may, in its sole discretion, apply additional criteria the review
authority deems necessary to mitigate impact(s) of the proposed use as a condition of approving a special use permit,
including but not limited to: 1. The site where such use is proposed is within 1⁄4 mile of a sheltered public transit stop."
In addition, while looking for a suitable neighborhood for my residence the specific zoning of Figgins subdivision was a
huge part of the decision. This facility falls outside of that zoning and I feel is a major reason why it should not be
approved.
Please slow this process down and allowing for proper consideration given all of the facts which should be presented to
those that live in the community.
Thank you for your consideration
