Subject:HRDC Proposed Shelter
Date:Thursday, October 31, 2019 1:08:07 PM
I am writing to voice my opposition to the proposed homeless shelter on Westridge. I cannot believe that
anyone would think a homeless shelter belongs in a residential neighborhood - not to mention that it is near
two schools.
I also note that per the City zoning map Figgins is zoned R- 1 residential single-household low density
district is to provide for primarily single-household residential development and related uses within the city
at urban densities, and to provide for such community facilities and services as will serve the area’s
residents while respecting the residential character and quality of the area. If I read this correctly the
homeless shelter should not even be considered.
I further note that the City definition of household does not include:
Any society, club, fraternity, sorority, association, lodge, combine, federation, coterie, cooperative
housing or like organization; a.
b.
Any group of individuals whose association is temporary or seasonal in nature; or
c.
Any group of individuals who are in a group living arrangement as a result of criminal offenses.
d.
Any group of individuals living in a structure permitted as transitional or emergency housing
pursuant to this chapter.
It seems the City has no choice but to deny the HRDC request.
