Subject:Concerning planned warming center by Morningstar subdivision

I am contacting you to express my concern and opposition to the proposed HRDC Warming Center
located 3025 Westridge Drive in the Figgens subdivision. I understand the need for such a facility,
but I am very opposed to its location. It is 287 feet from Morning Star Elementary School and just
a few blocks from Sacajawea Middle School. Its located in a low density, R-1 neighborhood full of
long term homeowners. A homeless shelter will fundamentally change the character of our
neighborhood, risk the safety of our children, likely lower the value of surrounding properties.
The proposed shelter brings the risk of disturbances and incidents that would not otherwise occur
in my neighborhood. Other HRDC shelters have experienced disturbances ranging from break-ins
to arrest warrants being exercised by the police. Please do not bring crime into my neighborhood.
A homeless shelter for 36 people and the safety issues it brings simply do not belong in this
location.
I appreciate the need for this facility, and I truly believe in its value, but I do not think a homeless
shelter located near an elementary school fits the character or safe nature of the neighborhood
and I respectfully ask that you do not approve its application.
Thank you for taking our concerns into consideration!
