I am writing to comment on the Special Use Permit as requested by HRDC for the proposedwarming shelter at 3025 Westridge Drive.
1. This is another proposed change to the R-1 zoning designation in our neighborhood. Wewon the fight to retain this zoning designation in 2014 and now see another attack on it. This
special permit would be INDEFINITE and not even a short term solution as proposedpreviously by HRDC.
2. The emergency housing should include proximity to the Streamline bus service, but theproposed location is over a mile from either the Kagy bus stop or the SUB bus stop. This
neighborhood is poorly served by Streamline, and HRDC should take this into considerationfor both emergency housing AND their Streamline routes.
3. The police reports for HRDC’s other warming shelters include car break-ins, warrantarrests, disorderly conduct, assaults, and trespass complaints. Is this what we can look
forward to in an area that also includes speeding cars on Graf (it’s 25 mph from S. 3rd to S
19th, but you’d never know it), congestion every morning and afternoon on school days, and
heavy use of dog-walkers, elderly exercisers, and kids on bikes?
Please deny this request for the Special Use Permit and seek more input from the community
you are supposed to serve.
