Subject:HRDC Homeless Shelter 3025 Westridge Drive

To Whom It May Concern,
I am a resident of the Figgins subdivision (Langohr Ave.) and have been informed by my neighbors
that there is a proposed warming shelter at the corner of 3rd and Graff (3025 Westridge). I cannot
understand why anyone would go through the effort and resources to ship people from the north
end of town (that is where the majority of the people would come from) to the south end, in an area
zoned R1? I have been in Bozeman most of my life, I see the gentrification happening throughout
the city and I understand the importance of having a warming shelter like this but am struggling to
understand why this cannot happen in an area zoned more appropriately, like an area closer to
downtown/mid-town? It makes the most sense to open a warming shelter where you typically are
seeing the impoverished and what happens if someone misses the bus, are they going to have to
stay the night out in the cold…? Don’t make these people get on a bus to an area that has no
amenities and is also at the crosswalk dividing two large schools. Of all the places in town this makes
the least amount of sense, equivalent to shipping folks out to the Springhill communities. Please
reconsider the location of the warming shelter, although desperately needed, this is NOT the right
area.
Thanks.
