To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing in opposition to the Special Use Permit requested by the HRDC for a seasonal warming center at 3025
Westridge Drive. While I understand a need for this service, the proposed location makes zero sense. HRDC is
requesting to use a house in a R-1 single family residential area. HRDC is proposing to temporarily house 36 people
at this home. Such a large transient population being bussed into a quiet residential area is absurd. Besides being
nearly adjacent to an elementary school and in the heart of residential south side Bozeman, the property is not
located near any day facilities or bus stops. Where will these people go if they decide not to get on the bus? There
have been many problems with the current warming center, even being located in an industrial area. Drug
paraphernalia, trash and loitering people are only a few of the problems. The location of the warming center will be
public knowledge. What will stop people from loitering and camping out in the area at all times of the day, waiting
for the warming center to open at 7 pm?
The proposed center is adjacent to a cross walk that many neighborhood children use to get to either of the area
schools. Many of these children are not accompanied by an adult. Their safety should be of the utmost importance.
This location for a warming center makes zero sense. I plead to the city planning office to deny the Special Use
Permit at 3025 Westridge Drive.
Sincerely,
Kristy Johns
