I am writing this letter to you to voice my bewilderment at the proposed HRDC shelter at 3025
Westridge Dr.
I am confused as to why you would even consider this shelter at its current location. It is
directly next to the major walkway to Morningstar Elementary and Sacajawea Middle School.
As a matter of fact the crossing guard for the children stands adjacent to the rear corner of
the residence!!!!
HRDC will downplay as much as possible any detriment or safety concerns to the
neighborhood. I find that truly astonishing as to all you have to do is pull up the police
reports generated at other shelters to show that shelters unfortunately create crime.
HRDC will also downplay that they actually have no legal authority over any occupant of the
shelter. These occupants can come and go, when and however they want. HRDC cannot
legally make them stay or even give them a ride if they refuse. So then tell me, where will
they go if they decide to walk away for the residence?, wander neighborhoods, walk to the
schools full of children?, they are too far to walk downtown, where to be honest they would
rather congregate and ask for assistance for the general public.
Ask yourself this before granting this application to the HRDC, would you want this shelter
next your your childrens schools, have them walk by daily, you dont have to answer that
because I know the answer would be a resounding NO.
HRDC can locate another shelter away from schools, parks and the such. There are areas
where they're would be no issues to public safety. Do not grant this application
