There is an important opportunity for Bozeman to be involved in the efforts to support our rail system and increase our sustainability efforts and reduce cars on the road. Please send
someone to Billings this Thursday! See attached flyer.

Dear fellow county commissioners, elected officials, and passenger rail advocates,
I’d like to extend an invitation for you to join us for the 2019 Southeast Montana Passenger
Rail Summit. As we know, the Empire Builder along the Hi-Line is a necessary, yet threatened, long-distance route through Montana, and it must be retained and strengthened.
Many states have organized when their rail transportation was threatened, and it is timely for us to do so as well. In addition, many western states are expanding their rail systems.
Following their lead, we have the opportunity to bring back intercity passenger rail service in southern Montana, thereby re-connecting the region to points east and west. We believe local
governments can create the necessary governance structure and organizational infrastructure that would play a much larger role in optimizing state- and federal-level resources to move
forward this initiative of bringing transportation options back to our constituents.
The Montana Rail Summit will take place in Billings on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 12:30-2 p.m. in the Yellowstone County administrative building (316 North 26th St., Room 3207).
Topics for the meeting include:The state of passenger rail in MontanaOpportunities for counties to create a regional passenger rail authority

There will be a follow-up meeting in the western part of the state at a later date. If you can
make it to Billings on the 24th, please RSVP by responding to this email so we have a rough
head count in order to accommodate attendees. Also, feel free to forward this message toanyone else who you think might be interested in attending. If you can’t make the meeting, but
would like to stay in the loop on this topic, please let me know. Thanks for your interest.
Best,
Dave
P.S. A big thanks to Yellowstone County for offering up a meeting room for the event.
