Subject:Public Comment on Appropriateness of Demolition Permit for the 5 E Mendenhall Project

Mayor Andrus and members of the Commission -
I am writing to comment on how inappropriate it would be to permit the demolition of the old
Straitaway Motors for the sole purpose of another inadequately planned project. The 5 Eastproject doesn't even attempt to comply with the City's minimum parking standards that would
require one dedicated parking space per guest room and additional parking for the proposedlounge that would be included. At a time when downtown parking is becoming increasingly
stressed, reasonable people can disagree about how many spaces a development should haveto provide; however, it is assuredly not zero. This project is another example of attempting to
profit from visitors to our City at the expense of our citizens. I ask that you reject the proposalas inadequate per the parking minimums that are currently in place and make the reasonable
request that the developer bear responsibility to provide dedicated parking spaces for potentialcustomers and not rely on the citizens of Bozeman to subsidize their profitability.
