Bozeman City Commission
Dear Mayor Andrus,
Recently the new streetlights on Baxter Lane between Ferguson and Harper Puckett wereturned on and they are extremely bright. There is excessive glare on the road and in your eyes
when driving either direction. The house on the northeast corner of Ferguson and Baxter is litup as if there were a spotlight on it. I live a block away and one of the lights that I can see
from my second story looks like an airplane is about to land in my yard. The lights are eithernot properly installed or they need different shielding.
Please reference section 38.570.010 regarding the purpose of lighting and section 38.570.100regarding nuisance glare.
Additionally, this is not a good look for Bozeman for the streetlights to be so bright. It givesthe impression that we live in a high crime neighborhood. As far back as 2005, the Bozeman
2020 Community Plan recognized the importance of appearances. From the CommunityDesign Introduction:
“In many ways, the perceived image of a community affects the quality of life enjoyed bycurrent residents, influences the desirability of the community to newcomers and visitors, and
ultimately impacts its economic viability.”
As the website is not clear about who to contact regarding this matter, please direct this note to
the appropriate department. I hope you will take the opportunity to come and see theconditions for yourself and help get this resolved.
Thank you for your attention,
Emily Kelly
