Dear City of Bozeman,
I am writing this letter in regard to the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) committee that is
currently inactive.
I work for the Montana Independent Living Project (MILP), one of the four Centers for
Independent Living in the state of Montana. Part of MILP’s mission and philosophy is to strive to promote independence for people living with disabilities. MILP is also at the forefront of advocating for access, choice, and self-determination for individuals with disabilities.
People with disabilities make up the largest minority group in the U.S., making up just over 22% of the population (ADA National Network). We believe that their voices deserve, and need, to be heard in the community. Therefore, I would like to suggest that the ADA committee be
reactivated so that people living with disabilities in our community can share their views and perspectives, and collaborate with other community members, around issues such as housing, transportation, health care, public accommodations, policies, etc.
Thank you for your time and I hope that you will consider our request to reactivate the ADA committee.
Sincerely,
Megan Child
