I received a notice in the mail soliciting public comment on the proposed AC Hotel to be
located at 5 East Mendenhall in downtown Bozeman. I recently sold my condo in downtown
and am in the process of purchasing a larger unit in the downtown to accommodate my
family.
I am strongly in support of the project because it will add to the continuing vitality of the
downtown core. I often stay at the Element Hotel and have also stayed at the Lark when the
Element is full. I strongly prefer to stay in downtown because of the great restaurants,
amenities, and the walkability. This proposed hotel will only add to the vitality. AC is great
Marriott brand and I seek them out when I travel, so I would look forward to that as another
hotel option.
I believe that the hotel will significantly add to the tax base of the city and will be an upgrade
to the current use on the property. The location across the street from the city garage is also
a plus because guests can easily park and use a garage that appears empty at night. Guessing
this would also add revenue to the city. As a past and future taxpayer, this is also good news.
Bozeman has done a great job of encouraging a strong downtown and trying to prevent
sprawl. In my travels, few cities have does as good a job. It is smart planning and the staff and
city council should be commended.
