HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-16-19 Public Comment - L. Barnard (3) - Bozeman Medical Arts Zone Map AmendmentFrom:Larry Barnard To:Agenda Subject:Rezoning West Parking Lot of Medical Arts Date:Monday, September 16, 2019 4:38:56 PM Men and Women of the Bozeman City Commission Please, consider my comments on the proposed rezoning of the West parking lot of MedicalArts. Changing zoning and allowing the possibility of another 5 story structure, with no realisticparking will permanently alter the surrounding neighborhood and it's positive character. Walking and biking will become more dangerous and much more uncomfortable. Parking isalready pushing 3 to 4 blocks North into our area and any further encroachment will create hazards, conflicts and other, unforeseen, problems. The extension of the B-3 area, downtowncore to a place 3 blocks from main street and into a residential area doesn't really seem like downtown to me. Just less expensive, vulnerable real estate. And then there is the issue of the timing. The current zoning has been in place for over ten years and, coincidentally, the Planning Department asks for a change just as a developer wantsto expand his domain and needs the zoning changed for his banker's satisfaction. I have lived here a very long time and when I located where I am there was no such threat, nosuch "core area". Now we have a "cookie cutter" urban plan that expects people without driver's licenses to move here without cars, or pickups or vans. And, I guess those people willtake a bus to go fly fishing or camping or hiking or mountain biking. Please, deny this change. Please, say it is time to draw a line, a line that doesn't move for theconvenience of developers and people who don't even live here now. Please, vote for the preservation of our community and our neighborhood. Please, take control. Please, stop thetail from wagging the dog.
