Dear City Commissioners,
I am writing to request that you consider adding left turn access in and out of Classical Way onto
Cottonwood road as you lay out expansion plans. I am a teacher at Petra Academy, so I access Classical Way
every day of the week, and I attend church at Trinity Church, which also meets in Petra's building. Since I
live to the north, I access Classical Way from the north at least 6 times a week. Without the option to turn
left out of Classical Way onto Cottonwood, I will be forced to cut through Valley West every day I need to
return home. And after spending just a few weeks driving through that neighborhood as traffic has been
redirected along Clifden during construction, I am convinced that is not a safe long-term solution. Yet many
families live to the north of Petra Academy and will be forced to adopt the same driving route, sending
dozens of cars through the neighborhood a day, clogging up neighborhood streets which were never
intended to be a thoroughfare for commuting drivers. And, although a left-turn option onto Classical Way
from Cottonwood won't necessarily affect me directly on a daily basis, there are countless families who
would face the same dilemma as they attempt to enter Petra Academy from the south. It seems unfair to
the residents of Valley West to funnel dozens of vehicles through their neighborhood on a daily and
permanent basis as families seek a practical way to get to school each day (not to mention to sporting
events, church events, and the various events hosted by those who rent Petra's facility). I ask that as you
finalize your plans you re-consider the importance of having full access from both directions as vehicles
enter and exit Classical Way.
Thank you for your time, consideration, and service to our community,
Ginny Owens
