Dear City Commissioners,
I have heard that the current plan for Cottonwood Rd is to have no left turn onto Classical Way. I believe
this would be a major inconvenience for a large number of citizens and visitors to Bozeman and be a
detriment to the traffic in the area.
During the school year our family makes 2 trips a day to Petra Academy and as our daughter is about to
start soccer there will be mean additional trips to Classical Way throughout the soccer season(s). The
most direct route for us to get to Classical Way is from Huffine. We turn North on Cottonwood and then
left onto Classical Way. If this isn't an option, we will have to go North on Gooch Hill from Huffine and
then East on Durston to Cottonwood. The Durston/Cottonwood intersection is always very backed up
going East at school pickup and drop off time because of the many parents going to
Petra/Meadowlark/Hyalite/Heritage Christian, and now there will be more traffic there due to the High
School. When I drop off in the morning, the traffic going East at the Cottonwood/Durston light is typically
backed up beyond the Bronken Sports Fields (vehicles waiting through multiple traffic light rounds)
The Bronken Sports Complex on Classical Way also draws a large amount of traffic for the numerous
games and practices that happen daily throughout the Spring/Summer/Fall. For visitors from out of town,
the most direct route would be to come North on Cottonwood from Huffine. If they can't turn left onto
Classical Way, they will be forced to use the smaller surrounding streets to get to Classical Way which
will be inconvenient and add traffic to an already congested area. Bronken Sports Complex also is the
access for a trail network which draws more people to this busy parking lot on Classical Way.
In addition to the school traffic, Petra is home to Trinity Church which has services twice each Sunday
and a Discipleship Class which also meets on Sunday throughout the school year. Petra also has gym,
sports field, and performance hall rentals which are used regularly by the community and bring more
traffic to Classical Way.
I strongly encourage you to come up with a way that will allow for a left turn from Cottonwood to Classical
Way. Thank you for your time regarding this matter.
