Bozeman City Commissioners,
My name is Clint Croft and I am a parent of 3 children at Petra Academy. It has been
brought to my attention that the new construction project on Cottonwood does not have
current plans for a left turn onto Classical Way from Cottonwood. This will be very
problematic for years as I am sure you will agree after conducting a second review of this
intersection.
I understand that our Headmaster and Board Chair (Craig Dunham and Sarah Storebo)
have submitted an alternative solution. I think that this alternative is very reasonable and
I understand it would not increase costs at all! I would passionately request that this
alternative be considered thoroughly and ultimately accepted as it will benefit the
community in numerous ways, not the least of which better traffic flow for the
surrounding neighborhoods.
Based on my own experience, Petra parents make several trips to and from school
everyday and we don’t have a bus network to help alleviate traffic. With kids you can
imagine there are always reasons to make additional trips to school (Doctors
appointments, forgotten lunch boxes, early pickup for younger grades…etc). This is a
multiplier of the traffic far beyond the number of families that attend Petra. Without a
left turn onto Classical Way all this traffic will unnecessarily be forced to access via the
Durston route, increasing traffic pressure around the Public Elementary and new High
School.
I think Craig and Sarah’s letter articulates the concerns much better than I can so I won’t
belabor the point. But I implore you to strongly consider the reasonable alternative laid
out in their letter and I look forward to hearing the results from your review and approval
of this alternative plan for the good of the community.
Respectfully,
