Site Visitor Name: Alan CrawfordSite Visitor Email: alan.crawford@me.com Dear Andrea, I read your letter to the editor in the BDC this morning. You have addressed a very important topic here and in all parts of the West - Water. it is my strong opinion that Bozeman is being way too nice about water. There should be VERY STRONG encouragement for people to STOP watering their lawns.Green lawns are unnecessary (as are the myriad of landscaping companies continuing spraying who knows what on people's lawns). Bozeman should get well ahead of the water problem andmake some VERY forceful changes. It can start with the city NOT watering parks / lawns / etc and the same goes for MSU. With the continued growth, we cannot sustain green lawns. My family moved here 15 years ago from upstate NY. We were more or less uninformed withregards to water usage when we moved here and the landscapers (private company plus assistance from MSU) did almost nothing to educate us. In our 15 years, we have become educated. Green lawns are NOT a Western feature of homes- Bozeman or otherwise. We had the city come to our house last year and perform a sprinkler assessment. Following this, we elected to simply make a serious reduction in watering. Thisyear other than watering our garden beds a few times, we have run the lawn sprinklers in one zone of our yard a total of 3 times. Yes, our lawn is no longer green but we know it will begreen next Spring and we know we are doing our part. We are also daring our HOA to give us a violation notice for NOT having a green lawn.
