To Whom It May Concern:
As a long-time resident of Bozeman, 30 years, I have seen many changes. Some have been wonderful
choices, but some have negatively impacted the quality of the area. I believe "The Merlin" is one of those
that will negatively impact our city. The scale of this structure has no business in the neighborhood it is
purposed to be built in. I used to live on Lamme Street, and have many friends that still live there. A
condo complex with units for sale upwards of $1,000,000 are not appropriate for this neighborhood. The
fact that it will be five stories high is also not suitable among the homey, historic dwellings in this area.
Here is a quote from someone who would live north of this building:
"I am a fifth generation Bozeman native and also the north neighbor to the future Merin. I am
already conditioned not to park in front of my house from the hours of 11 am to 8:30 pm due to
Dave Sushi patrons taking up the parking. I am also conditioned to picking up the garbage left
behind by those patrons. I can only imagine the parking issues once the Merin comes on line. I
am not looking forward to being unable to see the southern sun in the winter. The marketing
campaign for the Merin and all the other Home Base developments guarantee the nicest views in
Bozeman. Well what about the view shed of the existing neighbors? If I had enough money could I
purchase the skyline above my house?"
I am concerned that the white house on the site will be torn down. That house is not ramshackled
by any means and is a source of modest yet acceptable rental units on the North Side. Parking is
already an issue in this area, The Merlin will exacerbate this problem substantially.
Please reconsider this project. Andy Holleran should not get to take over this town with everything
he wants to do. This space is for the elite, not helpful with the affordable housing issues this town
faces.
