LONG-TERM LOAN AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE MUSEUM OF THE ROCKIES AND
THE CITY OF BOZEMAN
It is understood by both parties that the 1889 Silsby Steam Fire
Engine, owned by the City of Bozeman, is on long-term loan to the
Museum of the Rockies and subject to the following conditions:
l. The Museum will provide protection from weather, vandalism and
theft at all times, and will notify the city in writing
immediately if they are no longer able to provide such
protection.
2. Any changes in condition that require conservation or I:'epa il:'
measures will be repol:'ted in wl:'iting to the City.
3. It will remain in the Museums care, unless wl:'itten permission
is obtained from the City that I:'eleases the Museum from
liability.
4. It is understood that the City may wish to use it for special
events, in which case the City will provide the Museum with
written notice 6 months in advance. Specific arrangements for
each event will be discussed at least three months in advance.
Recommendations for use will be made by the Museum at this time.
5. If the City uses the engine for such an event, they will
provide wall to wall insurance and liability coverage, and
protection from weather, vandalism and theft until it is
returned to the Museum r and assure that it is enclosed or
covered during transportation to and from evento If it is
transported outside of the City, it must be in an enclosed
vehicle. The City may be asked to provide compensation and/or
assistance in removing and returning it to the Museum exhibit
floor.
6. All polishing, cleaning and repairing required for use in an
event will be done undel:' the adviSement of the Museum. If
damage 15 incurred while in the care of the City, the Museum
will be solely responsible for assessing the damage and making
appropriate repairs at the expense of the City.
-- 7 . It is acknowledged that the Museum has strongly recommended
against drawing the engine on its own wheels, either with a team
of horses or otherwise, for the safety of the fire engine, as
well as the public, in the event of an accident. The Museum
is released from any liability in such an event.
