I got to know the ins and outs of local government while employed there and that sparked a great interest in me to become more involved in my community. Ever since moving to Bozeman I have wanted to join a board or committee so I can begin establishing myself here and helping myself understand the issues. I am particularly interested in beautification projects as I saw first hand how it adds to the value of a neighborhood or city and how it can change the way residents see and enjoy their own city. While at the city of Thornton, I ran a beautification project called the "Paint-a-thon" where volunteers helped paint houses of low-income senior residents who had older, faded, and chipping paint jobs on their houses. The homeowners were always so grateful and volunteers and neighbors supported the effort too as it helped the community look nicer. I currently work for a local public relations company where I get to exercise my public outreach skills on a day to day basis. Though I just started, I have already met many leaders in the community. I would love to bring these skills to hear from everyday residents so they too can give feedback to the board and commission on the projects they'd like to see. And as someone who moved here by herself just over two years ago, I love the sense of camaraderie and friendship that our picturesque downtown brings to Bozeman, but I also think there are ways that Bozeman can become more beautiful and welcoming outside of the downtown Main Street. I hope to be a part of the preservation and beautification of Bozeman as it grows so quickly, and ensure that it stays the best small town to live in.
