(DURB)

RECOMMENDED MOTION: I move to appoint one member to the Downtown Area Urban
Renewal District Board, to a voting position, with a term ending June 30, 2020.
BACKGROUND: The Downtown Urban Renewal District Board (DURB) currently has one
vacant voting position with a term ending June 30, 2020. Two new applications have been
received.
The Downtown Bozeman Improvement District Board (DURB) was created under the Urban
Renewal Plan, which was adopted by the Commission under Ordinance No. 1409 on November
20, 1995. The Board consists of five voting members who shall have a demonstrated interest in
downtown Bozeman, and two non-voting members. The Mayor shall appoint the members, with
the advice and consent of the City Commission. In accordance with Section 7-15-4234, M.C.A.,
members shall serve staggered four-year terms. The voting members shall be residents of the city,
and a majority of the voting members shall not hold any other public office under the
municipality. Non-voting members must possess a demonstrated interest in downtown Bozeman
and may represent a specified list of organizations which include, but are not limited to, the Parking
Commission, Chamber of Commerce, MSU/Museum of the Rockies, Gallatin Development
Corporation, Bozeman School District, City of Bozeman, Gallatin County and the Downtown
Bozeman Association. Non-voting members need not be city residents. This board is
administrative.
This board currently has one vacancy. The City Clerk’s Office has received two applications,
with their relevant qualifications indicated below.

I served on the Board of Directors of Prospera Business Network from 2009 through 2016 including one
year as the board chair and I assumed responsibility for operations during a search for an Executive
Director. My tenure on the board provided experience in general economic development, liaison with the
City of Bozeman, administering business loans and grants, business counseling, workshops and business
community networking among the Prospera members.
I served on the Bozeman Graffiti Task Force from 1998-2012.
I have served in a variety of research and technology transfer positions at MSU since 1980 with a key role in
interfacing between MSU and the private sector, particularly Montana high-tech companies.
I am keenly interested in seeing Bozeman prosper by nurturing and synthesizing its scenic, cultural,
community, educational and commercial sector resources.

I grew up in Bozeman and moved back 10 years ago. Since then I have taught at MSU, started five
businesses, many of which were seeded in downtown, owned property both downtown and in the NW
areas of Bozeman and am now working as a commercial realtor/community developer and co-own a
residential and commercial design+build company with my husband, Matthew Schmidt. I am deeply
dedicated to the positive growth of Gallatin Valley and the continued vitality of downtown as the heart of
Bozeman's culture and commerce. I offer a wide variety of expertise including both residential and
commercial development skills, entrepreneurial experience, connection to community members and have
sat on The DBA board, Bridgercare executive board and currently sit on the Women's Business Center
advisory board and the Prospera board. whose missions are rooted in economic and community growth in
our region. I believe I would offer a unique perspective and would be committed to the execution of the
most impactful solutions for the Downtown URD.
