HomeMy WebLinkAboutProclamation 82- Lupus Awareness Week October 17-23 1982 I , PRO C LAM A T ION --~_..........--~------ LUPUS AWARENESS WEEK October 17-23, 1982 ************************* WHEREAS, Lupus Erythematosus is a chronic inflammatory disease of the body's connective tissue that occurs in two forms: Discoid which affects the skin, and Systemic which may cause inflammation and destruction of the joints, blood, heart, kidneys or other vital organs; and WHEREAS, an estimated 500,000 persons are afflected with this disease and 5,000 people die of this disease each year; WHEREAS, public awareness of this disease needs to be increased; and WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of all citizens and especially those of our citizens who may suffer from this disease to become aware of it and to seek proper medical treatment and assistance; and WHEREAS, the City of Bozeman, Montana, is vitally interested in the health of its citizens, is involved in basic research programs, and has created support programs for lupus patients. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Alfred M. Stiff, Mayor of the City of Bozeman, do hereby proclaim the week of October 17, 1982, as LUPUS AWARENESS WEEK in the City of Bozeman and urge all citizens of Bozeman to join in observance of this special week which has been set aside to publicize this prevalent but little known disease.
