NATIONAL HOUSING WEEK
October 24-31, 1982

WHEREAS, among the most treasured rights won by America's founding fathers
is the right to own and hold property. For most of our nation's
families this right is embodied in a home of their own; and
WHEREAS, whether the home be humble or grand. its ownership has been the
driving force in the workplace. It has qiven millions of Americans
something to work for. a reason for saving, a foundation for the
family life we hold sacred. a stake in the community and in the
future of our country; and
WHEREAS. the home builders of this city have built thousands of new homes
and apartments over the past years which have played a vital role
in our community's economic and social progress; and
WHEREAS, homeownership has given birth to stable neighborhoods. good schools
and concerned churches and local governments in our community; and
WHEREAS, the current economic climate threatens to deprive young Americans
of the dream of homeownership;
NOW, THEREFORE, in order to reaffirm our commitment to providing decent and
affordable housing for all Americans, I, Alfred M. Stiff. Mayor of the City
of Bozeman. Montana. do hereby proclaim the week of October 24th through
October 31st. 1982. as
NATIONAL HOUSING WEEK
and do urge their state and national elected officials to make housing a
national priority so that all Americans can enjoy the social and economic
benefits of home ownership.
