NEWSPAPER IN EDUCATION WEEK IN BOZEMAN
March 3-7, 1986

WHEREAS, the American Newspaper Publishers Association and the Inter-
national Reading Association have designated March 3-7 as
Newspaper in Education Week; and
WHEREAS, Newspaper in Education programs have been implemented by over
600 United States papers, with publications offered for school-
room use at half-price, along with free teacher and student
supplements, films and additional materials; and
WHEREAS, effective education is absolutely necessary for success in today's
society. We encourage the development and use of those materials
which can help students develop these educational skills. The
newspaper has been recognized as an extremely effective tool for
this purpose. Also, the goal of this program is to develop future
generations of informed and intelligent newspaper readers and to
promote appreciation of the newspaper's role in the democratic
society; and
WHEREAS, the Bozeman Daily Chronicle and the Big Sky Reading Council will
participate in the week's observance by offering special educa-
tional events, and the Montana Press Association and Montana
State Reading Council will help many papers develop programs;
Nm.o1, THEREFORE, I, Judith A. Mathre, Mayor of the City of Bozeman, do
hereby proclaim March 3-7, 1986, to be
NEWSPAPER IN EDUCATION WEEK IN BOZE~~N
and urge all citizens to take cognizance of the special events arranged
for this time in recognition of the newspaper as an educational tool.
