GALLATIN EMPIRE LIONS' WEEK
June 5~ 1" 1995

WHEREAS, the Gallatin Empire Lions Club was started in 1969; and
WHEREAS, the Gallatin Empire Lions Club is involved in many international projects, including
the Lions Clubs International Foundation, which funds projects that improve the
lives of the less fortunate around the world; and the Sight First, a project to
eradicate 80 percent of all preventable and curable blindness in the world; and
WHEREAS, the Gallatin Empire Lions Club is involved in many local projects, including Midget
Football, which has positively impacted over 3,000 young people in the
community; the Gallatin Empire Lions Foundation, from which interest monies are
used to assist those facing a financial hardship in their lives; and the Hyalite
Challenge, a project under which the International Foundation contributed $50,000
to make an area at the Hyalite Reservoir handicapped accessible; and
WHEREAS, in addition to the monies raised for the activities listed above, countless hours are
dedicated to these projects; and
WHEREAS, many local organizations in the community, including but not limited to: Big
Brothers & Sister, REACH, Inc., KUSM, the Food Bank, Park Gallatin Youth
Guidance Home, Bozeman Baseball, Montana Winter Fair, the Senior Sober and
Bozeman Senior High School, have benefited from assistance provided by the
Gallatin Empire Lions Club; and
WHEREAS, many state-wide programs, including but not limited to: Montana Eye Bank,
Montana Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation, Montana Low Vision Services, and the
Montana Affiliate of the American Diabetes Association, have been supported by
the Gallatin Empire Lions Club; and
WHEREAS, the single largest event in which the Gallatin Empire Lions Club participates each
year is the College Nationals Final Rodeo, to which members have contributed over
72,000 manhours in the Rodeo's 24-year history in Bozeman since 1970; and
WHEREAS, the Gallatin Empire Lions Club exemplifies the Lions Club motto -- We Serve.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, John Vincent, Mayor of the City of Bozeman, do hereby proclaim the week
of June 5-11, 1995, as
"GALLA TIN EMPIRE LIONS WEEK"
in the City of Bozeman, and encourage the community to recognize the many contributions, in
both time and monies, to support various agencies and projects throughout the community.
