PRO C LAM A T ION POPPY DAYS May 15-16, 1987 *********************** WHEREAS, each year, our citizens are afforded an oDDortunity to pay tribute to those many members of our Armed Forces who sacri- ficed their lives in the defense of our great Nation and whose gallantry should continue to be an inspiration to every citizen who enjoys the freedom and benefits of the United States of America: and WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that special honor be given our war dead, memories of them brightened, and special recognition to be given to thousands who continue to pay in suffering, dis- ability and illness resulting from services to their country: and WHEREAS, wearing a Red poppy or replicas made by hospitalized veterans throughout the year is symbolic of reverence and respect: and WHEREAS, a period is designated each year when these Red Popuies are sold by the American Legion Auxiliary and the proceeds from these sales used for rehabilitation of disabled veterans and the welfare of their dependents. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Judith A. Mathre, Mayor of the City of Bozeman, do hereby proclaim Friday, May 15, and Saturday, May 16, 1987, as "POPPY DAYS" in the City of Bozeman and urge every citizen to give generous recogni- tion to this program and to obtain and wear a Memorial Red poppy on these days.
