Montana State Vietnam Veterans Memorial Day
July 22, 1987

WHEREAS. Vietnam ~ Era Veterans from Montana have served the country by serving in
the armed forces; and
WHEREAS. three hundred sixteen Montanans gave their lives in service to their
country; and
WHEREAS. Montana has one of the largest concentrations of Vietnam Era Veterans per
capita in the United States; and
WHEREAS. a group of Vietnam veterans have formed a statewide organization to erect
a state memorial to honor those men and women from Montana who have served
in the armed forces during the Vietnam conflict. especially those who
lost their lives in that armed conflict; and
WHEREAS. this effort is being supported by veterans groups from across the state
and veterans from all wars; and
WHEREAS. veterans from across the State are participating in a Veterans Memorial
Walk to emphasize the common bond of all Montana Vietnam veterans and to
gain moral and monetary support for the Montana State Vietnam Veterans
Memorial. The memorial is to be dedicated on Memorial Day, May 31, 1988,
in Rose Memorial Gardens, Missoula; and
WHEREAS, the "Halk" across Montana will be coming through Bozeman on July 22, 1987;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Judith A. Mathre, Mayor of the City of Bozeman, do hereby proclaim
July 22, 1987, as
Montana State Vietnam Veterans Memorial Day
in the City of Bozeman and urge all citizens to support this project by walking the
last mile and carrying the name of one of the 316 KIAs or MIAs from Montana who served
their country during the Vietnam conflict.

City of Bozeman, in the State of Montana,
Seal to be affixed at Bozeman, Montana, this
20th day of July, in the year of Our Lord,
One Thousand Nine Hundred and Eighty-Seven.
