UNITED NATIONS DAY
October 24, 1986

WHEREAS, forty-one years ago, on October 24, 1945, the United Nations came into
being; and
WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the United Nations called for the annual
observance of October 24th as United Nations Day, to be devoted by all
member nations to making known to the people of the world the aims
and achievements of the United Nations and to gaining their support
for the work of the united Nations; and
WHEREAS, the President of the United States each year officially proclaims
October 24th as United Nations Day in the United States; and
WHEREAS, the united Nations was created to maintain peace in the world, based
on justice and self-determination for all people; and
WHEREAS, proverty, over-population, environmental destruction and the arms race
threaten the survival of civilization; and
WHEREAS, the need was never greater for a world forum where representatives from
all nations can meet to discuss common problems, can work to overcome
them, can try to resolve conflicts peaceably and can come to share a
global vision;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Judy Mathre, Mayor of Bozeman, do hereby proclaim Friday,
October 24, 1986, as
UNITED NATIONS DAY
and call upon all the citizens of Bozeman to observe that day in the spirit of
common purpose expressed in the United Nations Charter.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set
my hand and caused the Great Seal of the
City of Bozeman, in the State of Montana,
(SEAL) to be affixed at Bozeman, Montana, this
6th day of October, in the Year of Our
Lord, One Thousand Nine Hundred and Eighty-
Six.
