Action Items 1. 06:01:36 PM (00:01:20) Preservation Awards Event (Discussion) The board ran through the upcoming event and provided the opportunity to offer any new ideas. The previous year, the awards ceremony had between 50-75 attendees. So far this year, the board had received RSVPs from all of the nominees, except Emerson Lawn. (The person reaching out to them, Chair Jennifer Dunn, was unable to attend this meeting.) The keynote speaker this year was slated to be Kate Hampton of the Montana State Historical Preservation Office. 2. 06:54:48 PM (00:54:32) Inventory Update (Discussion) Mr. Gonzales noted that they were still in the process of working out a contract and the scope of work with Metcalf Archeology. The initial contract, once finalized, will be for the fiscal year. It will be a three-tiered survey to accomplish different goals. Mr. Gonzales explained how those tiers would be structured, and what the ultimate goals might be. 3. 07:02:44 PM (01:02:28) Wilson Project Update (Discussion) Mr. Karshner had looked at the Browning house, but felt it had been too substantially changed based on the drawings he had. He asked if photos were available, and was pointed to either MSU Special Collections or the History Museum. He said the current house is very modern and “boxy.” A couple of board members had done some work in the past on the Factor Building, so they had an assessment report and some photos available. 4. 07:05:52 PM (01:05:36) NCOD Review Update (Discussion) BendonAdams is working on a final draft of the work plan, which will be submitted to the City once complete, Mr. Gonzales reported. They were hoping to have some drafts to Mr. Gonzales within the next two weeks. It won’t be going back to the Commission at that point, just submitted by the staff to the City manager for inclusion in overall work plans and prioritizations. 5. 07:10:17 PM (01:10:01) Bozeman Sanborn Map (Discussion) Mr. Gonzales presented the digitized maps, now live HERE and overlaid on a recent aerial photo of Bozeman. They were originally fire insurance maps and go back to 1884. He explained what the different color codes meant. 6. 07:18:21 PM (01:18:05) Montana History Foundation Grant (Discussion) HPAB received a three-one ($1,800 from the grant, $600 from the City) match grant from Montana History Foundation, Mr. Gonzales told the board, to scan approximately 4,000 1983-1984 photograph negatives. F-11 on Main St. will do the actual scanning. The full process beyond the scanning will take about a year. G. 07:26:24 PM (01:26:08) FYI/Discussion 1. Board questions and general discussion Ms. Alegria asked if when trench work was done (in this case, the laying of new gas lines) in a historical district, if there was any archeology paired with it. Mr. Gonzales said that he wasn’t aware of any, or at least that it didn’t happen very often, unless it was along the edges of a cemetery. The board also discussed upcoming HPAB board openings and potential openings H. 07:34:08 PM (01:33:52) Adjournment For more information, please contact Phillipe González at pgonzalez@bozeman.net or 406-582-2940.
