HomeMy WebLinkAboutProclamation 95- Tobacco Free Week September 24-30 1995 PROCLAMATION TOBACCO FREE WEEK September 24-30, 1995 * * * * * * * * * * WHEREAS, as of October 1, 1995, it becomes illegal for minors in Montana to possess and use tobacco products; and WHEREAS, there are over 400,000 deaths nationally due to tobacco use; and WHEREAS, tobacco companies are targeting our youth; and WHEREAS, studies show that most addicted tobacco users start using tobacco in their teens; and WHEREAS, a decade of intense public education effort has proven that tobacco use causes health problems that can be prevented; and WHEREAS, comprehensive community-based strategies to further reduce and prevent tobacco possession and use by minors is now the law. NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Commissions for the City of Bozeman and Gallatin County, do hereby proclaim September 24 through 30, 1995 as "TOBACCO FREE WEEK" in the City of Bozeman and Gallatin County, and encourage citizens, government agencies, public and private institutions, businesses, hospitals and schools to promote awareness of existing and proposed laws intended to further reduce and prevent tobacco possession and use by minors.
