PROCLAMATION
BOZEMAN CRIME VICTIMS' RIGHTS WEEK
April 21 ~27, 1996

WHEREAS, one violent crime is committed in America every 17 seconds; and
WHEREAS, 43.6 million Americans are victimized in the United States each year; and
WHEREAS, crime victims play an indispensable role in bringing offenders to justice; and
WHEREAS, crime victims and their advocates over the past two decades have made
unparalleled progress toward balancing the scales of justice in our criminal
justice system; and
WHEREAS, the dawning of a new day of victim justice is being heralded across our land by
the strong spirit and commitment of millions of survivors of crime, their families
and advocates who proudly bear the banner of justice; and
WHEREAS, as a nation devoted to liberty and justice for all, America must increase its
efforts to protect and restore crime victims' rights; and
WHEREAS, the 1995 Montana Legislature strengthened the rights of victims to require that
victims be treated with respect and understanding and to involve victims in the
criminal justice system.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Don E. Stueck, Mayor of the City of Bozeman, do hereby proclaim
April 21 to April 27, 1996 as
"BOZEMAN CRIME VICTIMS' RIGHTS WEEK"
in the City of Bozeman and reaffirm a commitment to address victims' rights and criminal
issues throughout the year.

City of Bozeman, in the State of Montana, to
be affixed at Bozeman, Montana, this 15th
day of April in the year of our Lord One
