HomeMy WebLinkAboutProclamation 97- American Heart Month February 1997 PROCLAMATION AMERICAN HEART MONTH February 1997 * * * * * * * * * * WHEREAS, about 954,000 Americans die each year from heart disease and stroke; and WHEREAS, cardiovascular disease is the No.1 killer in Montana; and WHEREAS, lack of physical activity is a risk factor for heart disease; and WHEREAS, only 22 percent of all Americans get enough exercise to achieve cardiovascular fitness; and WHEREAS, the American Heart Association is committed to public education about heart disease and stroke and this year urges everyone to "Get in on the Action!" by making physical activity a part of their daily lives; and WHEREAS, the American Heart Association is committed to the support of ongoing medical research to advance knowledge in the areas of prevention and treatment of heart disease and stroke; and WHEREAS, the American Heart Association is the largest voluntary non-profit organization whose mission is to reduce disability and death from heart disease and stroke. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Don E. Stueck, Mayor of the City of Bozeman, do hereby proclaim the month of February, 1997 as "AMERICAN HEART MONTH" in the City of Bozeman, and urge the citizens of Bozeman to get in on the act,ion by making physical activity a daily part of their lives. I also urge all citizens to support the lifesaving mission carried out by the many Bozeman American Heart Association volunteers during February. Contributions of time and money will help in the fight against heart disease and stroke. SEAL IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the City of Bozeman, in the State of Montana, to be affixed at Bozeman, Montana, this third day of February in the year of our Lord One Thousand Nine Hundred and Ninety-seven.
