PROCLAMATION
TRAILS DAY
June 7, 1997

WHEREAS, National Trails Day has been an observance organized around the country by
the American Hiking Society since 1992; and
WHEREAS, this is the 5th annual National Trails Day; and
WHEREAS, a number of groups, including the Gallatin Valley Land Trust, the Rotary Club
and the City of Bozeman, have worked to implement the Parks, Open Space
and Trails (POST) plan, which emphasizes the establishment of greenways and
trails in and around the city; and
WHEREAS, the Gallatin Valley Land Trust and the City of Bozeman have worked diligently
to establish an effective adopt-a-trail program that stresses regular volunteer
maintenance of all our trails; and
WHEREAS, a number of local businesses have decided to participate this year in a "Two
Percent for Trails Day" voluntary donation program established by the
Community Food Co~op; and
WHEREAS, the trail system benefits the general health and welfare of the community's
citizens and provides an alternative for commuter transportation; and
WHEREAS, the "Main Street to the Mountains" program is primarily supported by
contributions from local citizens.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Don E. Stueck, Mayor of the City of Bozeman, do hereby proclaim
June 7, 1997 as
"TRAilS DAY"
in the City of Bozeman, and encourage the citizens of Bozeman to recognize the trail system
that has been developed for the enjoyment of area residents and visitors.
SEAL IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set
my hand and caused the Great Seal of the
City of Bozeman, in the State of Montana, to
be affixed at Bozeman, Montana, this 2nd day
of June in the year of our Lord One Thousand
