PROCLAMATION
RECOGNITION OF THE SACAJAWEA MIDDLE SCHOOL AND
BOZEMAN HIGH SCHOOL ODYSSEY OF THE MIND TEAMS
* * * * * * * * * *
WHEREAS, the Odyssey of the Mind competition is a team problem solving competition for
school age children. Each team of five to seven students presents a solution to a
predetermined problem to a panel of judges. The panel awards points based upon
the effectiveness of the team's solution and the overall appearance of its
presentation. The team members also solve a spontaneous problem presented to
them the day of the competition within a set time; and
WHEREAS, the competition requires the use of imagination, creativity, initiative, teamwork and
persistence; and
WHEREAS, 5,000 of the brightest and most creative young minds in the world will converge on
the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland, for the world finals, among
which will be the Bozeman teams from Sacajawea Middle School and Bozeman High
School; and
WHEREAS, the Odyssey of the Mind Team from Sacajawea Middle School placed first in the
Heroic Proportions Problem, Division II. at both regional and state competitions in
Bozeman, Montana; and
WHEREAS, the Odyssey of the Mind Team from Bozeman High School placed first in the Can
You Dig It Problem, Division III, at both regional and state competitions in Bozeman,
Montana; and
WHEREAS, the Odyssey of the Mind Teams will compete in the World competition in College
Park, Maryland; and
WHEREAS, the Odyssey of the Mind Teams will compete against teams from the other 49 states
and from many foreign countries as diverse as Australia. Brazil, China, Japan, Russia
and Saudi Arabia; and
WHEREAS, the Odyssey of the Mind Team from Sacajawea Middle School includes Melissa
Anacker, Jamie Booth, Anna Gamble, Amy Hanson, Daniel Luwe, Kristin Mayer and
Peter Nix; and the Team from Bozeman High School includes Karen Devine. Lindsey
Schweitzer, Shannon Somers, Kathy Suta and Abby Ward; and
WHEREAS, the City Commissioners, on behalf of the citizens of Bozeman, congratulate the
Odyssey of the Mind Teams for their past successes and wish them the best of luck
at the World competition.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Don E. Stueck, Mayor of the City of Bozeman, do hereby proclaim and
bestow
"SPECIAL RECOGNITION TO THE SACAJAWEA MIDDLE SCHOOL AND
BOZEMAN HIGH SCHOOL ODYSSEY OF THE MIND TEAMS"
in the City of Bozeman, and encourage the citizens of Bozeman to recognize the efforts of those
Odyssey of the Mind Teams. I further wish them the best of luck in the World competition.
