PROCLAMATION
RECOGNITION OF SHAUN MARSHALL-PRYDE FOR HIS ATHLETIC ABILITY

WHEREAS, Shaun Marshall-Pryde has a natural ability in the field of athletics; and
WHEREAS, Shaun has worked steadily over several years to improve this quality,
particularly in biathlon races involving running and shooting; and
WHEREAS, Shaun's efforts have enabled him to take part in many races, including six
national biathlon races and many other long distance runs, in which he has
consistently improved his standing; and
WHEREAS, Shaun took part in the summer biathlon at Xenia, Ohio on September 13,
1997, winning first place and coming in one minute and seven seconds ahead
of the runner-up; and
WHEREAS, Shaun took part in the world biathlon championship races in Krakow, Poland,
in September, winning one of four places on the American team and going on
to take honors for himself and his country; and
WHEREAS, Shaun took 35th place in the individual sprint event the same weekend. vying
against the world's best athletes; and
WHEREAS, Shaun placed 7th in the winter Olympic biathlon trials in Jericho, Vermont;
placed 11 th out of 750 of the best skiiers at the Boulder Mountain Tour in Sun
Valley; and won the 25-kilometer Yellowstone Rendezvous against 250
contenders, plus several other smaller competitions; and
WHEREAS, Shaun, as a member of the national team, will travel to Slovakia at the
beginning of May to train and race in the Slovakian Cup races.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Alfred M. Stiff, Mayor of the City of Bozeman, do hereby recognize
Shaun Marshall-Pryde as a talented athlete and an inspiration to others, and encourage the
citizens of Bozeman to be supportive of the City's athletes and to applaud Shaun's efforts.
