HomeMy WebLinkAboutProclamation 98- Recongnition of Miguel Galeana for his Athletic Ability PROCLAMATION RECOGNITION OF MIGUEL GALEANA FOR HIS ATHLETIC ABILITY * * * * * * * * * * WHEREAS, Miguel Galeana is a senior at Montana State University, and has consistently maintained grade averages high enough in his academic courses to renew a running scholarship for the past five years; and WHEREAS, Miguel states that earning that scholarship each year is a great motivation for being an achiever in both academics and running; and WHEREAS, Miguel believes being involved in academics and sports opens up many opportunities for meeting people; and WHEREAS, Miguel has the philosophy that running is a healthy thing for people to do because it gives one a feeling of well being and accomplishment; and WHEREAS, In 1996 Miguel won the 1500 meter outdoor track event in Cheney, Washington, with a time of 3:53 minutes; and WHEREAS, Miguel qualified for the 3,000 meter Steeplechase, attaining a provisional time of 8:48 minutes that qualified him for Indianapolis, Indiana, where he ranked 8th All-American in 1997; and WHEREAS, Miguel qualified to run in the Big Sky Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, held in Bozeman on February 27 and 28, 1998 and took first place; and WHEREAS, Miguel qualified to run in the National NCAA Championships in Indianapolis, on March 13-14, 1998; and WHEREAS, Miguel, currently ranking 9th at Collegiate level, hopes to continue to train hard and eventually earn a sponsorship that will enable him to attend the Olympic trials in the United States, and to be a member of the U.S. Olympic team. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Alfred M. Stiff, Mayor of the City of Bozeman, do hereby recognize Miguel Galeana as a talented athlete and an inspiration to others, and encourage the citizens of Bozeman to be supportive of the City's athletes and to applaud Miguel's efforts.
