HomeMy WebLinkAboutProclamation 98- Bozeman Crime Victims RIghts Week April 19-25 1998 ~- PROCLAMATION BOZEMAN CRIME VICTIMS' RIGHTS WEEK April 19-25, 1998 * * * * * * * * * * WHEREAS, one violent crime is committed in America every 17 seconds; and WHEREAS, 36.8 million Americans are victimized in the United States each year; and WHEREAS, on the local level, 343 victims and 106 witnesses of violent crime were assisted by the Victim/Witness Assistance Program in Gallatin County and the City of Bozeman during the last year; and WHEREAS, crime victims play an indispensable role in bringing offenders to justice; and WHEREAS, the 1995 Montana Legislature strengthened the rights of victims to require that victims be treated with respect and understanding, and be given the opportunity to be actively informed and involved in the criminal justice system; and WHEREAS, Gallatin County and the City of Bozeman are proud to join forces to support victims here in our community through the Victim/Witness Assistance Program; and WHEREAS, we pledge to do all within our means to promote healthy families and support a society free of violence so that no one will have to be victimized. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Alfred M. Stiff, Mayor of the City of Bozeman, do hereby proclaim the week of April 19 through 25, 1998 as "BOZEMAN CRIME VICTIMS' RIGHTS WEEK" in the City of Bozeman, and reaffirm our commitment to address victims' rights throughout the year.
