DRUNK AND DRUGGED DRIVING (3D) PREVENTION MONTI-I 2000
December 2000

WHEREAS, motor vehicle crashes kill over 40,000 people and injure 3 million every year, at a cost to society
of some $150 billion; and
WHEREAS, nationally, alcohol-related crashes account for approximately 38 percent of those deaths and
injuries; and
WHEREAS, the December holiday season is traditionally one of the most deadly times of the year for alcohol-
impaired driving; and
WHEREAS, for thousands of families across the nation, the December holidays are a sad time to remember
loved ones they lost to an impaired driver during a previous holiday season; and
WHEREAS, organizations across the nation are joined with the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration to launch ''You Drink anel Drive, You Lose", a national public awareness
campaign and law enforcement initiative; and
WHEREAS, the City of Bozeman is a partner in that effort to make our roads and streets safer.
NOW, THE RE FO RE, I, Marcia B. Yotmgman, Mayor of the City of Bozeman, do hereby proclaim December
2000 as
"DRUNK AND DRUGGED DRIVING (3D) PREVENTION MONTH"
in the City of Bozeman, and hereby call upon all citizens, government agencies, business leaders, hospitals and
health care providers, schools, and public and private institutions in Bozeman to promote awareness of the
impaired driving problem, to support programs and policies to reduce the incidence of impaired driving, to
promote safer and healthier behaviors regarding the use of alcohol and other drugs, and to provide opporhmities
for all to participate in reducing impaired driving this December holiday season and throughout the year.
I. Marcia B. Y omlgman, Mayor of the City of Bozeman, further proclaim December 15 - 17, 2000, as "Holiday
Lifesavers Weekend", with December 15 as "Lights on For Life" Day.
SEAL IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand
and caused the Great Seal of the City of Bozeman, in the State
of Montana, to be affixed at Bozeman, Montana, this 4th day
of December in the year of our Lord Two Thousand.
