WHEREAS, the Bozeman Safety Coalition, comprised of Child Care Connections,
Gallatin City-County Health Department, Bozeman Police De~artment,
Bozeman Fire Department, Gallatin Clinic, Montana Highwah atrol, Big
Sky Fire Department and Bozeman Deaconess Hospital, as become
a local chapter of National Safe Kids; and
WHEREAS, the Bozeman Safety Coalition is dedicated to improving the safety of
our children by reducing accidental childhood injury; and
WHEREAS, the focus of Bozeman Safe Kids will be geared toward three main
areas; and
WHEREAS, the first is vehicle safety. Bozeman Safe Kids hopes, through public
education and child safety seat clinics, to reduce the percentage of
children riding in vehicles improperly secured; and
WHEREAS, the second is bicycle safety. Bozeman Safe Kids hopes, thro(h bike
rodeos, children will be educated on the safety aspects 0 ridina
bicycles and the importance of wearing correctly fitted helmets; an
WHEREAS, the third is water safety. Bozeman Safe Kids will focus on the
importance of wearing properly fitted life jackets; and
WHEREAS, the theme of the 2001 Safe Kids Week is Make it a SAFE KIDS
Summer.!
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Marcia B. Youngman, Mayor of the City of Bozeman, do
hereby proclaim May 5-12, 2001 as
"SAFE KIDS WEEK 2001"
in the City of Bozeman, and encourage the citizens of Bozeman to support their goals
of reducing childhood injury in our community.
