PROCLAMATION
Bozeman-Montana All-American Soap Box Derby
Weekend
June 8-9, 2002
WHEREAS, on behalf of the Citizens of Bozeman, we are pleased to join with Alcohol and Drug
Services of Gallatin County, Gallatin Valley Communities That Care, Breakfast and
Noon Optimist Clubs, Tire-Rama, Reier Broadcasting Company, A TSCO,
Hiawatha Travel, Jaycee's, Lion's Club and community members in recognizing
June 8-9, 2002 as Bozeman-Montana All-American Soap Box DerbyWeekend
in Bozeman, Montana; and
WHEREAS, setting this weekend aside provides the youth of our community the opportunity
to participate in alcohol and other drug free events; and
WHEREAS, the youth who builds and races a derby car learns the importance of setting and
completing goals while developing traits such as self-confidence, perseverance,
and sportsmanship; and
WHEREAS, the advising adults will enhance the racer's craftsmanship and the proper use of
tools; and
WHEREAS, building and racing a derby car is an opportunity to develop mutual respect and
trust between a parent/guardian and child; and
WHEREAS, regardless of the outcome of a race, each youth is a winner as they have shared
a memorable, exciting and worthwhile experience with their advisor and the whole
community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Steven R. Kirchhoff, Mayor of the City of
Bozeman, do hereby proclaim June 8-9, 2002 as:
Bozeman-Montana All-American Soap Box Derby Weekend
in the City of Bozeman, and hereby call upon all citizens, government agencies, business
leaders, hospitals, schools and public and private institutions in Bozeman to promote, support
and volunteer to participate in healthy, productive activities for all our citizens.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and
caused the Great Seal of the City of Bozeman, in the
State of Montana, to be affixed at Bozeman, Montana,
this 3rd day of June in the year of our Lord Two
Thousand and Two.
