The Unions Service Station building is a one-story gas station with a rectangular footprint and connected awning. The service station has a two-bay entrance for servicing vehicles along the West façade, a large window next to the office entrance. The North Façade contains two plate glass
windows and two doors, likely for restroom entrances. The rear of the building contains two sets of
plate glass and the South façade contains two sets of fixed glass plate windows. The cantilevered awning is supported by 4 large metal poles. The Union Service Station is representative of the mid-century “Small Box with Canopy” architectural
gas station type. The structure appears to be clad in metal panels that make up the rectangular
structure and awning.

History of Property
Property Name: Union Service Station Site Number:
HISTORY OF PROPERTY
The current property where the Union Service Gas Station resides was subdivided in 1951 by
property owners Reuben and Ethel Williamson and the Durston Realty Co. The property resides along the N. 7th Ave, a historic thoroughfare running north to south through Bozeman and the Gallatin Valley. North Seventh Avenue has been called the Yellowstone Trail on various maps though the connection is not clear.
By the 1940s and 1950s North Seventh was dominated by gas stations, motels and car repair shops, all servicing the post war expansion of the city that heavily relied on automobile transportation. 1954 to 1975 the structure was owned and operated as a Union Service gas station, renamed Union “76” Service in 1958 based on Polk Directories. Later the station was operated by the Sinclair gas
company and eventually as a Best Rate Repair & Towing and Intensive Car: Auto Repair, specializing
in Subaru repair. The building remained vacant after 2016.
