Meeting Notes - April 01, 2019
I. Call to order
Bob Lashaway called to order the regular meeting of the Board of Appeals at 6:00 pm at Fire Station #1.
II. Roll call
The following board members were present: Bob Lashaway, Shannon Foley, John thorn. Absent: Brenda
York, Josh Wanago
III. Public Comment
a) Opportunity for public comment was offered as required. There was no public comment.
IV. Election of Officers
a) Bob Lashaway was nominated to serve as Chair— passed unanimous.
b) Shannon Foley was nominated to serve as Vice-Chair— passed unanimous.
V. Ethics Training
a) Annual Ethics Training was completed by all members. Training was conducted by Graver Johnson.
VI. Discussion Items
a) Lashaway reviewed the purpose and history of the Fire Code Board of Appeals.
b) Lashaway reviewed the Fire Code Board of Appeals Rules of Procedure. It was noted that the Board
is comprised of citizens familiar with code processes; it is authorized by the International Fire Code;
the Board is prohibited from granting variances from the Code; the Board is quasi-judicial — appeal is
to the district court system, not the city commission; Fire Chief is an ex-off icio member. Lashaway
moved to adopt the Rules; Second by Thorn — passed unanimous. These Rules will be reviewed for
the Board at the beginning of any subsequent meeting convened to hear an appeal.
c) This meeting serves as the annual administrative meeting of the Fire Code Board of Appeals. No
additional meetings will be held unless the Board is convened to hear an appeal.
VII. Adjourned - Bob Lashaway adjourned the meeting at 7:00 pm.
