AGENDA ITEM TYPE: Action RECOMMENDED MOTION: I move to approve the City Manager’s appointment of one member to
the Police Commission to a term ending April 30, 2022.
BACKGROUND: The Police Commission currently has one position with an expired term as of April 30, 2019. One term renewal application has been received.
The Police Commission is created under Section 7-32-4151, Montana Code Annotated. The three-
member board is appointed by the City Manager, with the concurrence of the City Commission, and is comprised of those who are “residents of such city or town who shall have the qualifications required by law to hold a municipal office therein."
Members are appointed to staggered three-year terms. Under Section 7-32-4142, M.C.A., one member
must be appointed annually at the first regular meeting of the City Commission in May. The Police Commission conducts hearings and decides on appeals brought by any member of the Police
Department who has been disciplined, suspended, removed, or discharged.
This board currently has one available position. The City Clerk’s Office has received one application, with their relevant qualifications indicated below.

During the past 5 years, I have served on a Citizen Advisory Board as a member of the Police Commission.
Since October 2014, it has been my honor and privilege to be on the Award Committee that recognizes the
exemplary deeds of department employees and citizens who have assisted the department.
On November 10, 2010, I completed the Bozeman Police Department Citizen's Police Academy Class #2 to
gain a better understanding of community policing and got to know and respect a group of dedicated men
and women behind the badge.
On February 17, 2012, I completed the Montana Crisis Intervention Team Training to learn how to engage
and assist individuals in crisis with mental and/or co-occurring substance disorders.
Before moving to Bozeman, my work experience included service with the National Park Service as a Park
Ranger-Law Enforcement, Irvine Police Department Senior Reserve Police Officer-Crisis Negotiator, and
Administration of Justice Instructor at Coastline Regional Occupational Program in Orange County,
California.
My interests include travel, hiking, photography and website administration for non-profits.
