I have heard through he grapevine that there is someone here in Bozeman starting a scooter rental
business and I am writing to beg you not to approve this. We have visited places where these companies
exist and scooters are littered about the town, and people on scooters are on the sidewalks and the roads
with no regard for either cars or pedestrians. It definitely has a negative impact on our impressions of a city.
Most recently we spent a couple of days in Scottsdale, Arizona, and were dismayed by the scooters that
were tossed aside on sidewalks and medians, we saw kids running after other kids on scooters, they
weren’t using these scooters to access shopping and dining. Parents may have been using them as
babysitting tools, but this is not something the rest of us should have had to endure. I read on her web site
that this person here in Bozeman is asking the general public to stand up her scooters if we see them
tossed about. Really? So if we want to live in a Bozeman that doesn’t have scooters thrown around, we
need to clean them up ourselves while she makes money from it?
Here in Bozeman we have just had several conversations about the vehicle/pedestrian challenges around
our downtown. I cannot imagine adding scooters to this mix. Our sidewalks already bustle with pedestrians,
strollers, and dogs. I cannot see how adding scooters will improve anyone’s experience of shopping, dining,
and doing business in downtown Bozeman. Our city is very walkable and bikeable, with great public
transportation. I am downtown several times a week and never have trouble finding parking within a block
or two of where I am going.
Please do not subtract from our quality of life by adding scooter rentals to our community.
Thank you,
City Of Bozeman
