Dear City Commissioners, I would like to request our city's pet leash ordinance(s) be changed. Currently, as
I understand it, dogs are required to be on a leash when in public spaces. This leash in general may not be
more than six feet in length. I would like to request a change to the ordinance(s) as follows: 1) I ask that
electronic leashes be explicitly allowed. They are equally effective and more owner/pet friendly. In this
case, an electronic collar could substitute for the more traditional leash. Also, 2) the leash should be
allowed to be more than six feet in length. Such a limited length seems ridiculous as it neither allows a pet
to get exercise, nor is it the right length to allow a pet to properly go to the bathroom. While I completely
appreciate the intentions behind our current regulations, I believe they are too limiting and a bit misguided.
The proposed changes will achieve the same goals and be more owner/pet friendly. Please let me know
what I can do to facilitate a robust discussion and formal consideration.
Thank you in advance, Chris Darnell
Thank you,
City Of Bozeman
