HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-07-19 Public Comment - J. Bakeberg - 5G Technology Health ConcernsFrom:Brit Fontenot To:"John Bakeberg" Cc:David Fine; Agenda; Scott McMahan Subject:RE: 5G health concerns. Date:Monday, April 08, 2019 12:19:33 PM Good afternoon Mr. Bakeberg, Thank you for your email. My name id Brit Fontenot, the director of the City's Economic Development Department. Since 2013 the City of Bozeman has been working to improve connectivity in the City to support growth in business. The City owns and manages about 5 miles of inert plastic fiber optic conduit in the downtown and midtown. Two of the seven ducts are leased by providers, one is a fiber infrastructure provider and the second is an internet service provider. The City of Bozeman does not offer telecommunication services of any kind to the public. The City owns fiber connections between buildings but manages these connections in-house. The City also uses radios to communicate wirelessly between buildings. I do not want to minimize your concerns over 5G technology deployment however, the City of Bozeman does not deploy or manage such technology. Thank you for writing to the City with your concerns. You can reach me directly at 406-579-1302. Kind Regards, Brit -----Original Message----- From: John Bakeberg <jbakeberg@gmail.com> Sent: Sunday, April 7, 2019 11:52 AM To: Brit Fontenot <bfontenot@BOZEMAN.NET> Cc: David Fine <DFine@BOZEMAN.NET>; Agenda <agenda@BOZEMAN.NET>; Chronicle News Alerts <nehli@dailychronicle.com> Subject: 5G health concerns. Greetings. My name is John Bakeberg and I'm a resident on Bozeman. I am contacting you about my concerns for the planned roll out of 5G technology. Despite the overwhelming scientific evidence that non-ionizing radiation has adverse health affects for ALL types of biological life, the FCC has ruled it unnecessary to regulate or limit human exposure to this type of radiation. This has paved the way for a nationwide 5G roll out without adequate safety testing or any application of the precautionary principle where it regards human and environmental health. This represents a real and present danger to the health and well being of our families, friends, and loved ones. The first link I've included here is to the 5G Space Appeal website. I would ask you to read it and consider adding your name to the appeal. In it you while find links to the many scientific articles and peer reviewed scientific studies that demonstrate the adverse health affects produced by this type of MICROWAVE radiation. The type of radiation produced by these 5G installations is smaller in frequency (millimeter), and thus more destructive to biological or cell function, on a one-to-one basis, then those of your average microwave oven (centimeter frequencies). https://www.5gspaceappeal.org The second link is to a recent story out of Brussels, Belgium where the environment minister has put a temporary ban on 5G deployment out of public health concerns. She uses quite strong language in her decision. http://www.brusselstimes.com/brussels/14753/radiation-concerns-halt-brussels-5g-for-now The third link refers to a city council action in Mill Valley, CA that has proactively banned 5G through an "urgency ordinance" to regulate health and safety in their community. This demonstrates that actions at a community level can be taken to protect the health of our families, and loved ones. https://www.sfgate.com/local/article/mill-valley-5g-antenna-tower-cell-phone-block-13221925.php Finally, I've included a link to a short YouTube video of expert testimony at a Congressional hearing. This five minute clip is very factually informative, but, also indicative of the kind of short-shcrif given to any critical voice regarding this technological experiment being run on human populations. If this technology is deployed as the telecom industry would prefer, there will be little to no place that the average human could go to escape the irradiating effects of this experimental, untested technology. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1Qt5B39LB7c&feature=youtu.be I would ask and urge that public hearings be held regarding the health and safety concerns of this technology and its potential for devastating impacts on our environment. I would ask that the public be informed on a regular basis as to the status of this infrastructure deployment: the immediate, mid-term, and long-term actions and plans. I would be personally thankful for any leadership that you or any of your colleagues would be willing to provide regarding this very critical issue. My Thanks, John Bakeberg
